Chaguaramas once again covered with dead fish

Date: May 19th , 2017

Dear Editor/Newsroom,
Chaguaramas once again covered with dead Fish
Fishermen and Friends of the Sea (FFOS) are once again reporting that presently as we write Calypso Marina, in Chaguaramas is presently covered with dead fish.

The Institute of Marine Affairs (IMA) and the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) have continuously stated in the past that this is “dumped fish”. FFOS maintain its initial statement, that this is not dumped fish!!! The IMA/EMA are once again wrong!

The shallow waters of Chaguaramas are contaminated and there is something in the waters that is killing all of the fish in the area daily.

There must be proper investigations and analysis to determine what is killing these fishes and conclusions should not be based on ad hoc information and should not be made without proper scientific investigations.

FFOS appeal to the Line Ministers to ensure proper scientific conduct and detailed investigations are conducted.

Unless the IMA are transparent in its findings the fishers and the fish consumers will be placed at great health risks.
